Synopsis:

Michelle Leitinger is the mother of two young children who love using die cuts for art projects. It seemed only natural for her to start an eco-friendly crafting business when her oldest entered school. EcoPartyTime finds out how Michelle started her at-home business, what challenges she faces, and other ways she and her family live a green lifestyle.

EcoPartyTime: We are thrilled to add Confetti and DIY Card Kits to our store. They are completely made out of recycled paper. Entire credit goes to Michelle Leitinger who maked these products out of her home. We asked Michelle on how she got started.

Michelle Leitinger: I have been a stay at home mom for the past 5 years. My son is seven and started first grade this fall. My daughter is five and we keep busy all day together. With my son now in school, I have a little free time. I wanted to do something fun and creative with my free time. I started to make my own crafting supplies in the fall of 2009.

When I starting crafting I found it very difficult to find Eco-Friendly crafting supplies. Upon lots of searching and research, I have been able to find beautiful crafting paper made from recycled papers. I am trying to use recycled paper for most of my supplies and craft kits, but would be happy to do custom orders in any color combinations. My children love die cuts for art projects, so that is how I came up with the idea for childrens craft kits.

EcoPartyTime: What challenges do you face?

Michelle Leitinger: The main challenge I have faced with my business is finding recycled paper. I was very surprised when I started crafting and found that recycled paper was not readily available. I purchase most of my recycled paper online, as I can’t find it locally. The low supply of recycled paper available limits the color options available for my products.

EcoPartyTime: Other than working with recycled paper, in what other ways to do live an eco-conscious lifestyle?

Michelle Leitinger: I try hard to lead a green lifestyle for myself and my family. We are avid organic gardeners and enjoy growing our own vegetables and fruits. We compost and recycle. Energy conservation is very important to my family; we strive to be efficient as possible. I enjoy shopping at thrift stores for used clothing, toys and books. When shopping, I try my best to make choices that are eco-friendly.
